England Fencing Seeks Expressions of Interest for joining the Executive Group of the Organising Committee for the 2022 Commonwealth Championships

Members & friends of England Fencing,

In 2022 Birmingham is due to host the Commonwealth Games. While fencing remains outside of the main programme it is common that Commonwealth Fencing Championships are also held by the same host country in that year.

To that extent England Fencing (EF) is considering submitting a bid to host the 2022 Senior Commonwealth Fencing Championships, for which initial work has already begun.

At this time England Fencing is seeking expressions of interest to fill critical roles in the organising committee (OC), responsible to the England Fencing Board and Commonwealth Fencing Federation (CFF) for the preparation and running of the Championships. The roles currently being sought are:

    Chair (President)

– responsible for liaison with EF and CFF, governmentand other interested parties, with overall responsibility for the event.

    Secretary

– responsible for administration of the OC and legal aspects, including interaction with all Commonwealth nations and advice on visas, logistics, insurance etc.

    Treasurer

 – manages the event budget, and monitors the overall expenditure. They are also responsible for the collection of income (e.g. entry fees, referee levy).

The initial focus of the OC executive will be to expand on the work done to date by the EF board: finalise venue selection, prepare a budget and complete bid submission documents.

England Fencing is looking to receive expressions of interest from individuals or groups for one or many of the roles above, and further information can be shared with candidates upon request (e.g. CFF championship organisation handbook).

It is anticipated that the roles will be part-time during the planning stages and that there will be financial recompense for time worked.

The appointment of candidates will be done after assessment of suitability by members of the board of England Fencing, to at least include the President, Deputy President and Treasurer.

Expressions of interest should be submitted to president@englandfencing.org.uk by 22 May 2020.

We look forward to hearing from you!
