Director appointment

We are delighted to announce that Michael (Mike) Swiffin has been appointed to the Board.

Mike’s appointment fills a gap in the board and he brings with him a wealth of knowledge of the club environment as well as international experience and much needed IT skills just to mention a few things.

Mike is chair of North West Region and, at the Board’s request, he was nominated by the Regions to represent them all on the Board while fulfilling the usual duties and obligations of any Board member.

Since November, the Regions have been invited to send a non-voting representative to the board meetings and that has proved very productive. Mike’s appointment takes this to the next stage. Conflicts of interest will, of course, be carefully managed.

At the last AGM (20 November 2022) it was mentioned that England Fencing wants to have better regional representation on the Board and that when the articles are redrafted it is intended to create an extra board place specifically for the regions. This appointment accelerates the closer involvement of the Regions in the National Governing Body and also increases the representation of active club coaches on the Board.

This will all help in properly understanding the needs of more of our members and helping us, as an organisation, to support them.
