Independent Director Appointment
We are delighted to welcome Steve Petrie to the Board as an Independent Director.
Steve is a High-Performance Coach holding a FdSc in Strength, Conditioning and Sports Coaching
(Distinction), BSc in Sports Rehabilitation with Strength and Conditioning (1 st ) and is currently studying
for an MSc in Psychology.
Steve’s interest in athlete development, both physical and psychological, was piqued when he was
competing as an MMA fighter and rugby player. Since retiring from playing sport Steve has coached
in a variety of environments as both a sports specific coach, PE teacher and Strength and
Conditioning Coach. This has included England Rugby u20s, England Rugby South West Academy
(S&C lead), Bristol Rugby, Plymouth Argyle, British Fencing ADP and u23 Strength and Conditioning lead and Danish Fencing.
Currently Steve is working with Truro Fencing Club, Shakespeare Swords and the Leon Paul Project
as well as individual fencers in Europe and the US.
Additionally, Steve works with several netball clubs competing at local to national level as well as Team Bath’s Athlete Development Centre and a
number of private clients in a variety of sports.
This combination of outside sports and insight into the fencing world should allow us to benefit from a different, but informed, perspective.
Steve is pictured with the Prestige Awards Personal Trainer of the Year Award 2020/21 and 2021/22 (South
West) in recognition of his work. The judges specifically cited how he “goes above and beyond for his
clients, creates a community feel and consistently achieves results with clients of all ages and abilities”
As with all members of the Board all potential conflicts of interest are declared and carefully managed.
We are very much looking forward to the positive impact Steve will have on England Fencing’s offering to our members starting with him coming to the Board strategy meeting at the end of the first day of the England Youth Championships, on 17th June.
