OBITUARY: ALAN GARDNER
OBITUARY: ALAN GARDNER (1937-2024)
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Alan Gardner, aged 87, on Saturday 25th May. Alan was the England Fencing Treasurer for a number of years, up to 2009, when he retired from the position. He received an honorary vice presidency in 2008 in recognition of his services to England Fencing.
Alan was a regular presence on the Foil circuit, both UK and overseas, in the 1990s and 2000’s, supporting his daughter Kate; and latterly supporting his granddaughters Isabella and Alexa. The family have been overwhelmed by the many messages from the fencing community who remembered him as a larger than life character who had a friendly word for everyone, and as a caring and gentle giant with an infectious laugh and an all-embracing bear hug.
The funeral service will be held on Tuesday 25 June 2024 at 11am at St Mary’s Church, Woodnewton, PE8 5EF, followed by refreshments at Willowbrook, Manor Farm, Apethorpe, PE8 5DP.
All are welcome.
