New for 2018 England Fencing are selecting fencers for Paris CEP U17 Cadet event. This will be a pilot with the aim of supporting our fencers when they leave U15 into GB Cadet fencing.

Up until this point we’ve only ever offered under 15 trips, the under 17 foil trip is a pilot for next year. If it is successful and there is a suitable event for U17 Epee and Sabre then we would consider it at that point.

Will fencers in their first year of u 16 at the BYC get points from that event as they will have been born in 2002 which is the relevant year to qualify?

The BYC’s under 16’s aren’t awarded points. The full list of included events can be found in the selection document.

The new rules indicate the top fencers at the EYC for U13 events can only get automatic selection for the U13 team and no longer for U15 team, whereas top 4 U15 finishers get automatic selection to either U15 or U17 teams depending on their YOB. Is this an intended change, or an error on the document?

The Under 17 event is a new event for us and a pilot. At the EYC’s the top year of Under 15’s can only drop into the Under 17 event as they will have moved out of the U15 category in the following calendar year. There is no Under 17 event at the EYC’s.
